Task 1:Audio Dubbing

Progressions:

fig xx: manual sync audio

After recording my own voice, I imported them into Premiere Pro

fig xx: adjust the pitch

fig xx: adjust DB

fig xx: adjust transpose ratio

fig xx: add a sound effect

fig xx: add a sound effect

fig xx: add background music

fig xx: edit the audio in Adobe Audition

Task 2: Sound Shaping

Tutorial session:

fig xx: bring down the bass treble

Following the demo/ tutorial video by Mr. Martin, I imported the Sample Voice in  Adobe Audition and start to edit. The first demo is for phone call sound, we use the parametric equalizer to bring down the bass treble.

fig xx: muffle the sound

Using the parametric equalizer to make the audio sounds muffled.

fig xx: reverb

Adding reverb to make echo effect sounds. Personally thinks that the "Pre-Delay Time", "Perception", and "Output Level" affect the audio the most, can clearly hear the difference. We can also choose preset reverb by environments set in the audition.

Task Progressions:

We are required to shape 4 different environments by using the same audio.

1. Voice of phone call

fig xx: equalizer

I mainly adjust the "L" and "3" for phone call sound effects.

2. Voice coming from inside a closet

fig xx: equalizer

The sound inside a closet will sound like being muffled, hence I reduce the bass and increase the "2".

fig xx: reverb

As I thought inside a closet will also have a little reflective sound, I added a really minimal amount of reverb for the audio.

3. Voice of toilet/bathroom

fig xx: reverb

Obviously talking inside a bathroom will have a more obvious reverb sound, hence I add reverb for it first.

fig xx: add eq

Then I was thinking can be more realistic, I tried out to adjust the eq to see if the outcome is better.

4. Underground cave.

fig xx: reverb

For the voice in the underground cave, the reflective and echo sound will be stronger and unstable, because of the rocks and uneven texture of the surroundings, the voice reflected will take a longer time and be unstable.

fig xx: add eq

I also slightly adjusted the eq to balance the reverb.

Additional:

5. big stadium

As previously Mr. Martin included this and then simplified it, but I still tried to shape it as I found it quite fun.

fig xx: reverb

For big stadiums, the voice will be a little bit similar to the underground cave. The space is big but it didn't have a very uneven texture like an underground cave, hence the pre-delay time will be lesser.

Task 3: Sound Design

MCD ad:

fig : MCD ad

I think the sound effects do sound surreal or unreal but it does have the effect of attracting the audience.

Explosions layering Progressions:

fig: explosion layering (multitrack)

Copy new of the original track and add effects then add them into the multitrack and start layering.

fig: explosion stretch and pitch

Use stretch and pitch to either speed up or slow down the track, and also can untick the LOCK to manually change the speed without affecting the pitch.

fig: explosion reverse

Add reverse for the explosion track to make it more interesting at the beginning when the explosion starts.

fig: add to multitrack

Then add the tracks into the multitrack to layer them.

fig: explosion layering (multitrack adjustment)

Further adjustments on the layering.

fig: explosion layering fade in and out

Add fade in and out for every track.

fig: explosion equalizer

Add a parametric equalizer to adjust the quality of the track.

fig: explosion mixer

In the mixer, we can change the DB of every track and also add eq/ effects for the whole mixed-down track.

fig: hard limiter

Add hard limiter to add the boost kind of effect.

fig: mixer final eq

Then adjust the final eq for the whole track.

Punches layering progressions:

fig: punches layering

After adding different effects, drag them into the multi track.

fig: punches eq

Change some of the punches' track eq.

Sample voice alien progressions:

fig: trim the parts

Choose the part I wanted to edit for the alien monster sound.

fig: flanger

Using flanger to make the distorted kind of alien sound effects.

fig: add eq

Add eq for the voice to make it more distorted and sounds like a non-human.

fig: layering

Finally, add them into the multitrack and layering, then proceed to the mixer to check the overall.

Final outcome:

FEEDBACKS

Task 1: Audio Dubbing
OK

Task 2: Sound Shaping
Others are fine. The bathroom voice is too reflective, need to reduce it a little.

REFLECTIONS

Overall it's quite fun and interesting. The challenging part is self-learning and time limitations I think I need to explore and learn more about Adobe Audition as the software is new to me, and the things I got to know and do are very limited at this stage.
