INSTRUCTIONS
Module information booklet:
Week 1 (05/04/2023)
fig: lecture
During week 1, Mr.Kamal briefed us on the module information and gave us an introduction to Blender. We learned about the basics of Blender, for example, how to add shapes, how to transform, and so on.
Week 2 (12/04/2023)
Exercise 1: Primitive Modeling
Tutorial:
Progressions:
fig: references
I found some references from Google and kinda like the Jack in the Box toy concept.
fig: box
I start off by creating the box using 7 cubes (one is for the lid) and adjusting the "z" size to form a board.
fig: arranging
Arranging them in different views, make sure they are aligned.
fig: Boolean
fig: Boolean
fig: Boolean
Use the modifier, Boolean to make a hole for the top part of the box by placing the cylinder in the middle of the cube and adding the modifier, deleting the excessive parts.
fig: spring
First, I add a cone and add the Array modifier by setting 0 for the x-axis and adjusting the z-axis. I added 7 cones and then adjust the overall size to fit in the box.
fig: bend
After adjusting the size, I add another modifier, Simple Deform (Bend) to create the curvy look.
fig: hat
fig: hat
fig: hat
fig: hat
I wanted to make a curled cone shape for the hat, but unfortunately, the shape cone can't bend so I use a cylinder array instead. First, I add the modifier, and array, then deform (taper), and lastly deform (bend).
fig: mouth
I tried to use a sphere to make the mouth but it doesn't really look nice.
fig: mouth
I chose a cylinder instead.
fig: mouth
I place the half cylinder on the sphere and use Boolean to cut out the mouth shape.
fig: mouth
When using the modifier Boolean on the sphere it will cause some unrefined edges.
fig: mouth
I tried using smooth by right click the sphere.
fig: different faces
I was a bit indecisive, hence I tried out different shapes for the face.
fig: color
At first, I try to explore by adding different colors and see which suits the best.
fig: wrap image
In the end, I chose the color palette I liked and used in the advanced typo project. I thought this color palette suits this theme. For the box, I use image texture instead, as I wanted to make a more complex pattern so can emphasize the character which has a simpler texture.
fig: add texture
I added glossy material for the bell to make it stands out more.
Outcomes:
fig: outcome
While waiting for final feedback, I decided to submit this version first and see if there are still further changes, and try to resubmit after Mr.Kamal's feedback.

FEEDBACKS
W3 model before colored:
can tilt the box a bit and bend more for the character, to have the arch shape, looks more dynamic.
W6 feedback:
Need to zoom out a bit, and make one of the bottles slimmer so overall will look more interesting. Add background, and make sure the camera doesn't show the edge of the plane.
