Final Project: Character Modelling

References & Research:

I start with searching tutorials/ videos of people modeling characters,

This one I found it kinda cute and interesting and might be challenging too as it is a skeleton, but Mr.Kamal said need to be an existing character.

Next, I found Mr.Potato from Toy story, the challenging part I think will be the ears, mustache and hands I guess, as I has some organic shapes and human features like the nose.

Then, I also found Anger from Inside Out, it's a timelapse of a YouTuber modelling and rigging it. Mr.Kamal say it's better to try out this character, hence I try out this character instead. These are some references I found in the sketch fab, as I can't find a turnaround sheet or blueprint of this character hence I screenshot the front, side, and back of the model that other people did.

Tutorial/ Reference Videos:

I refer to these timelapse videos https://youtu.be/EalyEgxLmcU (part1) and https://youtu.be/7UtHZEZEwzs (part 2), I didn't really follow the whole process because my wireframe is not really the same as the one on the video. Also because it's a timelapse hence I only can refer to some parts because it's too FAST and skipped a lot of parts.

These are some tutorials for the procedural texturing and geometry nodes,

Outcomes:

As I was suffering on the render, due to some settings problem or file size, I asked my friends, lecturer, and cousin to help and finally, Mr.Kamal ask me to try to remove the subdivisions and reassign a new one for the objects and remove the geometry nodes for the fur should be ok.

So I rendered the 1st version without the fur:

fig: 1st attempt

After asking Mr.Kamal's feedback, he said the leg is floating a bit, and the lighting is Ok with the one I first showed him.

fig: 2nd attempt

In the 2nd version after adjusting the position, I feel unsure about the appearance because the fur geometry nodes are missing so I ask Mr.Kamal's feedback on whether I should continue with the fur but I can't really render it maybe the nodes are too heavy. After discussing it with the lecturer, we decide not to apply fur to it.

Final outcome:
