MOODBOARD:

fig: final storyboard

Scene 1 <Hey>:
start with a black old film screen with the first word 'Hey' in a jitter effect
Scene 2 <Don't ever..>:
a moon in the sky, end of the tunnel
Scene 3 <You can't do..>:
the moon drops on the road and rolls towards the screen, portraying that even if a moon wanted to be on the ground, it could do it even if people think that it couldn't.
Scene 4 <not even me..>:
Will Smith talked to Jaden Smith in this scene showing even his father can't stop him
Scene 5 <you got a dream..>:
A pair of hands holding a sparkle/star on the cloud, with a galaxy background with shooting starts, shows that in this whole world, there are so many people with dreams (the stars), and you have it also, and it's precious
Scene 6 <you gotta protect it>:
Swiped from galaxy to Bluesky, it's like back to reality, you need to protect your dream, in a jar, don't let people affect you
Scene 8 <people can't do..>:
The moon trying to go through the obstacles shows that when you try to do something that people can't do/ they think it's impossible
Scene 9 <they wanna tell you..>:
The fingers pointing at the moon telling you can't do it, the moon slowly rotates backward ( a sense of giving up)
Transition 9-10:
The fingers faded out, the moon actually can go through the obstacles.
Scene 10 <if you want...>:
The moon succeded and overcame the discouragement from others, and became a growing flower
Scene 11 <go get it>:
The flower reaches the sky and reaches the sparkle/star (dream from scene 5), and the flower glows
Scene 12 <period>:
end with a period, the end.

PROGRESSIONS:

fig: editing audio

I tried to lower the volume of the BGM so I could focus more on the script and EQ to make it sound like a film using Adobe Audition.

fig: edit the photos

Using photoshop to add the elements I wanted in a frame.
fig: adding paper textures

Adding a paper crumbled footage > track matte> blending mode> add displacement effect in the picture

fig: 3D layers

Enable the 3D toggles, and separate the layers in the Z axis.

fig: illustration elements

Creating some simple illustration shapes in 3D form using AI inflate effect.

fig: green screen paper torn effect

Using green screen paper tore the transition effect from online, and I added a keylight to add my own footage in both footages.

fig: photoshop elements

I used PS to edit the pictures I wanted, to make them look like on paper, to match the collage concept.

fig: green screen paper torn effect

I used green screen paper transitions to link the scenes.

fig: procedural texturing

I used turbulent noise to create the paper texture and the printed text's texture.

fig: compositing

I found magazine letters from FREEPIK and composited them in PS and AI to the word I wanted to form.

fig: wobble text animation

Animate wobbly effect for the text 'PROTECT' for scene 5. Starting by adding bevels and depth for the text.

fig: scale animation

Start with the base animation, using scale, how the letter will bounce.

fig: add effects

Adding warp and CC bend it effect to make it even more bouncy and wobbly.

fig: arrange the letters

After done all the letters, I manually placed the compositions into the Scene 5 comp, rotated and scaled them a bit, and offset the keyframes.

fig: panning

After the composition, I panned down to scene 6, and added a null object for the elements, so the elements would go out of the frame together.

fig: composition for scenes 6-7

Then based on where it ends for scene 5, I added some elements to create scene 6, which is a mixture of mountains and desert. I added the moon from scene 1, to continue the narrative.

fig: animate the elements

Adding keyframes to make the 'moon' roll.
fig: reverse time

I was trying to duplicate the paper animation and reverse it, so it would crunch back and back to the sky background, but due to the track matte, the timing was so off, so I wasted too much time just finding out how to solve it, in the end I just change the transition to paper tore transition.

fig: roughen edges

fig: animate the path

As the concept is collage and hand-drawn, I created the path using a pen tool then added the roughened edges effect to make it look like a pencil stroke, and then added keyframes for the flowers too, so it will follow the path.

fig: animate the glow effect

I added fractal noise, tint, and CC light burst on the shape layer, to make the glow, and adjust the midpoint to match the flower.

fig: color correction & film grain

After rendering the final comp, I proceeded to Premiere Pro to add film effects, grains, and color corrections to make it more like old film.

FINAL OUTCOME:

FEEDBACKS:

the effectiveness of mind mapping for organizing ideas.
Emphasized the shift from movie quotes to self-intro, indicating a more niche target audience.
Stressing the importance of assignments contributing to future investments, such as increasing social media followers through shared movie quotes and motion graphics for enhanced exposure.
While self-intro serves well for job applications, the lecturer suggests movie quotes offer more potential, allowing for mixed media and showcasing a blend of real-life and vector animation.
Movie quotes are seen as a practical choice, as self-intro may consume more time.
Encouraged to explore iconic phrases like "be water, my friend" from Bruce Lee.

The focal points include typography, then only focus on other elements, with a particular emphasis on audio and typography. Experimentation with weird compositions, similar to the shark exercise, is recommended, urging a mindset of remixing learned concepts.
