Collaborative Design Practice
Task 1
INSTRUCTIONS
Timeline:
PROGRESSIONS
TASK 1:
Create an empathy map & define the problem statement
Week 1
For the first week, Ms. Lilian briefed us on the module and project, then after the self-introduction session, we needed to form groups and start to create folders for each group.
After the class, our group discussed on when will be the meeting date, the group name, and the representative (leader) in the Whatsapp group, and we voted for those. We set the meeting on the 1st day of week 2, before the meeting we went through the given information (pitch video and proposal), for better understanding and more organized, I created a Figma board and compiled what I understood from the project brief in the board, and shared to the group for meeting purpose.

During the first meeting, we started with brainstorming task 1 based on the project plan, challenge analysis, and target audience, we also did contextual research.
Week 2
We had a progress check session with Ms.Lilian, presenting our project plan, challenge analysis, and so on, as per feedback, we are on the right track, just need to do some research, and expand the challenges to questions for the clients to clarify.
fig: questions for clients
After determining the questions, Jia Hsuan sent the questions to the clients waiting for a response, the client wanted to meet virtually, hence some of our groupmates attended the meeting with the client (business school representative) to clear our doubts.
fig: user persona & empathy map
The leader distributes the tasks into three personas (homeowner, contractor, and property agent), each persona will be handled by two members, me and Jia Hsuan work on the contractor persona.

Then, we went through the feedback and discussed the problem statement, delegate parts for 2 slides for submission, and the week 3 presentation.
fig: problem statement
We started by ideating our own points, categorizing them, and then picking out the key themes for insight statements. Based on the insight statements and challenge analysis, we came out with two problem statements for both homeowners and contractors.
Week 3
For this week, we presented our project plan and documentation.

FEEDBACKS
week 2
- redo pitch video (if possible)
- Answer the challenge on designers pov
- Don’t need to do everything, do within our limit and capabilities
- Consult client- legal issues & other questions, Ask regarding typography and logo
- Survey if necessary only
* legal stuff actually depends on the plans you'd need to discuss your contracter but shouldnt affect the app, might need to contact client
* You can already start storyboarding and add in reference when you feel inspired in ur spare time so u can already have some ideas for task 2
* Project brief is not a guideline for task 1, it's just a complimentary document to assist us on our research
* Survey is optional, it depends on us if we think it's necessary to create profiles
Notes from client meeting
1. Follow the turqoise and orange for now. colour scheme is open for discussion. they wanna see how the turqoise and orange works first. if we have suggestion of logo designs/colour scheme with the same theme as the logo they have now we can show to them.
2. Brand identity sure can change, but logo design try to maintain the spanner in the house design or something that resembles house work(e.g. danger sign). minimalistic style but not just a box, maybe a box with like a spanner inside.
3. contractors do comply with those laws. client have collaborated with the school of law to make sure they have the laws aligned. but for now they just want the sketch and the barebones of the ui/ux and they'll let us know if we need to adjust based of the legality issues.
4. when they register they need one of their credentials(phone number first then email), afterwards they need a license verification needed. all contractors and technically approved by a government body.
5. the app will show the progress of the work. there will be steps of the payment and contractor working and finishing the work. there might be more steps they wanna add but there is a progress bar. they have two different sections of the app when you login for the first time. "welcome to quantocube services, login as contractor or login as homeowner" and have different sections for the contractor and homeowner but shouldn't seem like they're two different apps
* opacity of the app shouldn't be transparent like the ref picture
* continue as guest should be a minimalised text instead of buttons for logging in
week 3
- work on the logo (brand identity)
- color palette for the brand
- typography!!
- research more for the minimal layout
- rough plan for animation next week (storyboard)
all info/content will be taken from the previous pitch video
- testing on selected typeface
TODO NEXT WEEK :
1. confirm brand logo, color palette
2. sketch wireframe for storyboard (video) and app
3. testing on multiple selected typeface
REFLECTIONS
Experience
Initially, I was looking forward to this module to try out something new, but I was so anxious and disappointed after the brief, as the project is very heavy in UI/UX, which is not my expertise and field of interest. Luckily, I managed to group with these precious teammates, and we managed to keep on track despite the initial concerns. I was kinda impressed by the efficiency of the group in project planning, and designing the problem statement in a short timeframe.
Observation
During the meetings or just doing our own parts in this task, I realized the importance of teamwork and communication, because of that we were able to keep on track whatever we were doing, and everyone was responsive whenever one of us needed help or opinions. I also realized the importance of data collection, without it, we suffered a bit in the insight statements, as we need to try our best to put ourselves in the homeowners' and contractors' shoes. Despite that, with the help of contextual research and online resources, we still managed to finish the statements.
Findings
I acknowledged the importance of teamwork, flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving skills whenever working as a group, especially with unfamiliar tasks in my case. I acknowledged the need to improve my skills in explaining ideas or turning my ideas into a proper sentence, I still need to improve my communication skills in order to work better with my groupmates.
