Task 2
PROGRESSIONS
Task 2:
Brainstorm to ideate the solution to the problem statement
fig: art direction moodboard
After presentation and feedback session with Ms.Lilian, we had a meeting for finalizing the art direction moodboard, including testing out the color palette with the typefaces, then we delegate the task to app flow, logo design, pitch video.
fig: pitch video brainstorm
Me and Hoi Yee insert our own ideas in the board, with references, brief storyline, and style. Then we showed them during group meeting, and discuss for the finalized story style.
fig: illustration style for the brand
We also discussed that we needed an illustration art style for both the app and pitch video, hence we tried to find references for the illustration, after a few discussions, we decided to go for a line art mix with flat colors style. The proportion of the human will be more stylized, smaller heads and bigger body shape.
fig: rough storyboard
After finalizing the storyline and style, me and hoiyee had a meeting and come out with a rough storyboard, visualize the videography part, and how we gonna film the scenes.
fig: pitch video storyboard + moodboard
While Rachel was working on the logo and branding, Jia Hsuan, Jennifer, and Justin working on the app architecture, Me and Hoiyee work on the pitch video, refining the storyboard in the videography part and also the motion graphic part.
fig: motion graphic flow
Hoi Yee and I had a quick meeting with Jia Hsuan to ask her opinion about the motion graphic part. Since we are going to include the user flow in the motion graphics, we incorporated the features that Jia Hsuan mentioned were important, so we can highlight them more in the video.

After determined the flow of the motion graphics, Hoi Yee and I continue to refine the storyboard, and ensure smooth transitions between videography and motion graphics.

FEEDBACKS
Week 4
- use grey tones to show the shapes better in logo
- Agree with the client because theres a lot to focus with the seperated q and c
- Don't follow what client says because sans serif looks bad on screen
- Can look for a thinner font because seems like that's what client likes
- Type looks professional enough
- For colours, you can incorporate the turquoise or yellow into the colour palette you have now
- Right now too much blue so need to have variations(can try to make the bright blue into more turquoise)
- Asked them about the pitch video and how much of the original content they wanna keep before proceeding
- Solidify the flowchart by next week
- Can roughly think of the app design already
- Show your moodboards and final flowchart next week
- Answer framework based on the app, video, branding
- Prototype will need to try to be as final as possible
Logo design
- Try out grey tones to form the shapes for the logo design
Colour palette
- turquoise and yellow could be highlight colour (need to have enough variation)
- How the blues are going to distinguish it between the 3? Try to maybe change one of it and incorporate turquoise in it?
Pitch Video
- Need to check whether the content/storyline we have is what they want (SDG need to put in or no?)
- Consider graphic style for pitch video- match with art direction
App
- Come out with rough layout for wireframes (low-fi)
Overall need to create preliminary framework for every outcome
REFLECTIONS
Experience
During these few weeks, we struggled a bit with the art direction, spending quite some time to come up with a suitable color palette that matches the brand, client preferences, and the matter of contrast for use in graphic designs and the app. The UI/UX students in our group were the core of this project. The app required a lot of knowledge and work, and Jennifer from Entertainment Design contributed significantly to the app information architecture. We also spent some time discussing the flow for the motion graphic, as we realized we needed to include both sides of the users (contractor and homeowner). For the pitch video part, we changed the storyboard a few times and continued refining it, as it involved videography and motion graphics. Overall, I feel so impressed with my group members; the way we work on our own expertise and learn from each other is beautiful.
Observation
I was impressed by the UI/UX students in our group, particularly with the amount of knowledge and work required for the app. The way they distributed the parts that we needed to consider for creating the app revealed that there were far more considerations than I had expected. Jia Hsuan, the group leader, taught me a lot about the app flow chart. As we needed to include the app’s features and flow in the video, we studied the app flow chart with her help. I observed that the videography played a significant role in making the whole story more playful and relatable by adding a bit of a story so people would feel relatable.
Findings
We found that the pitch video needed to include both perspectives of the users (contractor and homeowner). We aimed to keep the video short and engaging, as lengthy videos with too many descriptions are less appealing to the audience. Instead, we tried to squeeze all the highlights and important points into one short video. The process of refining the storyboard multiple times is torturing me in some way. Additionally, the collaborative efforts within our team, where we leveraged our own expertise while learning from each other, significantly enhanced the project’s development.
