PROGRESSIONS

Figma Board:

This Figma board serves as our ideation hub, compiling ideas and sketches for the app flow.

Task 2: Exercise 1 - User Persona Research
fig: ideation board

Before starting our user persona research, our group held a meeting to discuss ideas for the app. We used a Figma board to compile and organize our thoughts, ultimately finalizing the concept for a solo traveler app.

Survey Questions:

Then, we discussed which method to use for collecting data for the user persona and decided on a questionnaire via Google Form for its accessibility and ability to reach a wider range of respondents. We then brainstormed the questions needed to gather well-rounded answers, enabling us to create a more targeted and effective app based on the data collected.

This is the Google Form we created to conduct the survey questionnaire:

Form Responses:

There are a total of 22 responses by 7/6/2024.

User Persona Analysis:

The document above is the user persona analysis. Each member will analyze two user personas from the 22 responses we have collected.

Task 2: Exercise 2 - UX Requirements

UX requirements table:

At this phase, we discussed the main goals and expected outcomes for the app based on our conclusions from the user persona analysis. We decided to focus primarily on safety, reliability, and convenience.

All the user requirements, business requirements, and technical requirements are compiled in the table above and slide below for better documentation purposes.

Requirements Compilation Slides:
UX Design Task 2 - Travello by Jiahui Leong

We've set some business requirement goals in the slides. Although we're not very familiar with the business and technical aspects, we still tried to do some research and find references from existing apps to list down our own goals. We also analyzed existing apps and our competitors' pros and cons to gather findings as references or benchmarks for our app.

I also learned a bit about front-end frameworks by researching the links provided by the lecturer. From this research, we finalized two platforms that best suit our needs to create the app.

I also listed out the technical limitations we might face based on the functions and features we plan to include, which are derived from the user needs identified in the user persona analysis.

Task 2: Exercise 3 - UX User Journey Diagram

User Journey Diagram:

We divided the user journey flow based on the app's features, including the login page, itinerary planner, budgeting, map, services, community, and account page (profile). We initially started creating our user flow on a Figma board. After receiving feedback from the lecturer, we documented the user flow in this diagram. We also removed some features based on the feedback, as the lecturer suggested that including too many features might be overwhelming. We decided to focus on the main ones.

REFLECTIONS

Experiences
Our group began the project by brainstorming ideas for the app during our meetings, which was an enjoyable and creative process. We chose the theme of a travel app, which I found exciting and fitting. Collecting responses for the survey was also engaging, as it allowed me to explore different perspectives on solo traveling and understand others' needs. This was particularly interesting to me because I personally enjoy solo travel and don't face many struggles, so I was curious about what might prevent others from doing the same and how we could address those issues.

Observations
During the brainstorming sessions, I noticed that working together led to a lot of innovative and fun ideas. In analyzing the survey responses, I observed various viewpoints on solo travel and identified common challenges that potential users might face. This helped in understanding the needs and concerns of solo travelers beyond my personal experience.

Findings
I was surprised by how complex and mentally demanding creating the user app flow could be, given that I am not a UI/UX student. It became clear that designing an effective app flow requires thorough research and consideration of various factors. To address this, we needed to reference other apps, such as KLOOK, to better understand best practices and incorporate those insights into our design.
