Task 3: Project Proposal

In these few weeks, our main focus has been on the branding for the app, including the color scheme and the overall visual direction. We discussed the art direction online, experimented with different color combinations, and finally settled on a cohesive color scheme.

fig: mid/ lo-fi wireframes

During week 08, we worked on our own respective mid-fidelity wireframes in Figma. We collaborated by providing suggestions, sharing icons, finding references, and communicating primarily through Figma and WhatsApp.

We came out with the app name too, initially, we just said Travello for fun, as it is kind of Malaysian slang and funny, then we came to discussions for the app name, and we listed some names and ended up still being most satisfied with Travello. It sounds friendly, simple, and Malaysian, and it is also best to represent our app which targets solo travelers.

For the features, I am assigned to do the login page and community page. I start by doing research on different apps and Pinterest. For the community page, I mainly refer to Pinterest, Instagram, and XiaoHongShu's app layout, as they are some famous social media apps with good reviews. I also occasionally send my progress in group or ask group members' opinions, and what to change.

REFLECTIONS

Experiences
Over the past few weeks, we focused on solidifying the brand, including choosing colors and styles. I really liked the color combinations we settled on. While working on the mid-fi prototypes, I had to find a lot of references since I was not very familiar with apps or graphic design. This process required me to go through various apps and learn to observe their designs closely.

Observations
I observed that successful app designs incorporate many subtle yet significant details. As I referenced different apps, I started to appreciate the thoughtfulness behind their features and icons, which greatly enhance usability. Before this module, as a regular user, I didn't notice these small but impactful elements.

Findings
I learned that designing an app involves a lot of careful consideration and attention to detail. The features and icons that might seem minor play a crucial role in the overall user experience. This module has taught me to notice and value these details, contributing to my growth as a UX designer.
